We want you to look magnificent on prom night, and any one of our prom dresses is sure to do just that. But you need to be aware of what colors work and what ones should be avoided. Flirt Prom is here to help you make the right choice and make you look fabulous. You can thank us later!

Skin tone Just because someone has the same skin tone as you, does not mean that you will both look great in the same dress. The colors that will suit you depend upon some key characteristics including hair color, your ethnicity, and your eye color and undertones. Skin tones are divided into seasons and once you know your season, you can find the fabulous dress that is going to work perfectly!

Spring (light) Tones Spring tones have light complexions and golden undertones that are typically peach or creamy white.People with spring tones can have strawberry red head, rosy checks, freckles and green or blue eyes.

Summer (cool) Tones Summer tones are cool complexions with red, blue or pink undertones. The skin of a summer tone isusually pale and the hair is naturally blonde or brunette with pale eyes.

Autumn (warm) Tones Autumn tones are known as warm complexions. The undertones are golden or warm yellow. Mixed race, darker or Asian skin falls into this category, as do redheads and brunettes with golden brown eyes.

Winter (deep) Tones Winter tones have deep complexions with red, pink or blue undertones. The skin of a winter tone can be olive, white or dark. Winter tones will generally have brunette hair with deep colored eyes. Many African Americans and Asians fall into this category.

What to wear. The little black dress- although this style of prom dress is iconic, flattering and slimming, not everybody can pull off the look. Black can be overpowering for some skin tones, especially spring and summer. Black can overwhelm these tones and you should avoid wearing too much, especially near the face. But good news for autumn and winter, black works very well for these tones. The red prom dress – In general, all red dresses will suit winter and autumn skin tones. But they can work with spring and summer tones as well; it all depends on the tone of red. Try experimenting with different shades of red against your skin and find the shade that really makes you glow.

Winter- what to wear Winter is a cool tone and generally has a lot of contrast between hair color, eye color and skin tone. Use this contrast to your advantage and go for colors that are sharp, clear and stark. You will look best in intense, rich colors such as black, hot pink and red. All of these intense shades will compliment your contrasting color. If you want lighter colors, try cool blues, pinks and yellows.

Winter- what not to wear Avoid earthy colors such as gold, orange and beige. These colors will make your skin look faded and subdued.

Summer- what to wear Summer skin tones will look fantastic in a prom dress of light blue or lilac or any other soft pastel. Because there is very little contrast between the eyes, hair and skin tone;think subtle and natural colors. Dusty pink, lavender and pale yellow are all great color choices.

Summer- what not to wear Avoid a prom dress with intense colors and vivid hues. These will drown out your skin. Earth tones should also be avoided, as should black and orange.

Spring- what to wear Spring is a light and warm tone and skin color is either extremely light or ivory. Springs also have very light blue or green eyes. Spring is very similar to autumn and if you cannot decide which one you are, springs tend to have pale eyes, while autumns have darker eyes. Springs can wear pale, soft colors with their prom dress. Think peach, golden yellow, golden brown, coral or aqua. You will also look great in clear blues and bright greens. If you want to wear a red, choose a scarlet or sangria.

Spring – what not to wear Stay away from blacks and whites. You should also avoid dull or dark colors, as these will do nothing for your skin tone.

Autumn- what to wear Autumn’s have depth to their coloring and skin tone. Therefore, rich and earthy colors with your prom dress will really make your complexion pop. Think autumn leaves and spices. Try out beige, olive, gold, dark brown and warm grey.

Autumn- what not to wear Avoid bright colors and whites. These are going to make you and your outfit appear tired and faded. Also, avoid blue tones and pastels. Think warm and autumn; anything else isgoing to make you appear pale. If you are still confused about your skin tone and your season, don’t worry! There are plenty of beauty professionals in the mall that will be able to help you figure out what season you are. Once you know for sure, follow our seasonal rules and you are such to look fabulous in your prom dress for prom 2012!
